Added 2020-11-25 01:05:35 +0000 UTCGrand Canyon adventure! Started this hike at 9am and thought 13 miles seemed like no big deal since I hike all the time. As I descended into the canyon it became more and more intimidating since I knew I was doing the easy part first and at the end of the day I would be climbing 3200ft back up. To my excitement I met a cute girl on the trail (we kept our distance, dang COVID) but we talked for a mile until mile 3 where she called it and turned around, maybe where I should have called it too π. Further along the trail I met some deer friends that I walked with for awhile (video below). After 6.5 miles down the canyon I reached an amazing overlook where you could see the Colorado river running deep into the canyon. This is where I did a sneaky change into my sun dress and set up for some pictures. I only saw a couple of other people at the overlook and found out they planned to camp at the bottom of the canyon and do the hike back up the next day. Which is when I realized thatβs how most people conquer this hike. Anyways I changed back into my hiking clothes and knew I had quite the hike ahead of me and I was right. The way back up definitely tested my will power. It ended up being 5 hours straight up hill and by mile 13 I was almost limping up the trail as my foot decided it was done lol. Thankfully I only had to deal with the foot pain on the last mile and I made it up right before the sun set. Perfect timing! The next day I woke up with the sorest legs I have ever felt in my life. I could barely walk lol. Even with the intensity and pain it was a incredibly memorable experience and Iβm really glad I did it! In the last picture if you zoom in you can see the trail and where it leads to the overlook, it looked much less intimidating from the top π .
